o What was the telecom product/service? I used the internet a lot this week, along with the normal telecom products (cell phones, computers, ect.)
o How were you directly or indirectly impacted by the product/service? I was directly affected by the service because I was able to research my thesis project as well as access information on the internet that I am not able to access in the library, such as ebay and consumer websites for products. It directly affects the people who I buy and sell to on ebay as well the the companies that I require services from.
I guess it indirectly affects the people around me because they may use and interact with the products that I buy and I indirectly affect the people around me when I use the service because I may be able to persuade them to use the internet.
o Did you/others/society benefit from the use? If so, how? I think many people benefit from the use of the internet, because it is a open resource for many things as well as entertainment. There are so many uses for the internet that I do not feel like I could even name half of them. I know I benefit from the internet largely for a resource, it is like the yellowbook pages but 500 times larger. I planned a large part of my wedding using the internet, to contact services and through e-mail to establish contacts. I keep in contact with many through e-mail and I feel like this has been a great improvement to having to call all the time for something little.
o Did problems arise because of the telecom product/service?
I didn't have any problems with the internet this week. I have had some issues with finding the exact thing I am searching for on google, but other then that, it was good.
o How was your communication/information exchange facilitated or hindered by the product/service?
I think e-mail has helped me with my communication and information exchange between many different people ranging from friends to clients to service providers. I would much rather send an e-mail, then call and try to track down the right person. It allows me and the other person to answer at convenience.
o Did your communication pattern/style change when the product/service was used? In what way?
I think the communication is a little less personal. I wouldn't ask an important question or tell anyone something important over e-mail. I make sure to address the person politely, not misspell any words and make my conversations well thought out.
Otherwise, the week has been productive with my communication technology.

Journal 1
Aloha! Here is my Blog for Journal 1 on Telecom
o What was the telecom product/service? Cell Phone, Television, Radio, Land line, Computer, Ipod, PDA, Bluetooth, and others
o How were you directly or indirectly impacted by the product/service? I am directly affected by most of the products listed below but I also am indirectly affected when others use the products above. This is due to their distractions from society while using the devices (i.e. walking down the road...not watching where they are going because they are talking on their cell phone).
o Did you/others/society benefit from the use? If so, how? I believe that I benefit from using technology because it allows me to be more proficient, to accomplish tasks quickly and it is a less invasive approach to communicating. Such as, I work at a wedding coordinating company in Waikiki and we use e-mail to reach our customers and try to organize their future nuptuals. We also use calling as another means to contact the person. These two methods are much more efficient and quicker then sending a letter or trying to arrange a meeting to talk to them in person. This technology makes life much easier.
As for me personally, I feel like the computer makes school work and general life much easier because of its high storage ability, my laptops portability and the internet. I am able to spend just a few minuetes looking something up online instead of having to drive to a library and look up my reserach in a book.
I believe that others benefit from technology and telecom services because they provide an overall ease of use. We are able to outsource to other countries because of technology and I think this is for the better. The customers we work with at the Wedding Company benefit because they are able to put their trust in use while using telecom services to arrange their wedding with ease.
o Did problems arise because of the telecom product/service?
I had a problem with one of the computers at work, the keyboard didn't work, so I switched all my work to another computer and the problem was solved. My FM portion of my CD deck in my car also died, so I have to replace that. Telecom services and products are expensive!!
o How was your communication/information exchange facilitated or hindered by the product/service?
My communication is sometimes hindered when I use a cell phone and the reception drops. Otherwise, I think my communication and information exchange while using the telecom products and services is effective.
o Did your communication pattern/style change when the product/service was used? In what way?
I think using telecom products and services has made communication less personal. It is very easy to negotiate and solve a misunderstanding on the phone because you are not embarrased by being in person. I am also much quicker on the phone, it is right down to buisness. In person, I take the time for small talk and to really connect with the person.
Overall, this week has been full of telecom services and products. I realize that my life is full of them, but I don't mind. I can't imagine living without some of these products, although I do realize that they make my life move at a quicker pace and at times it is much more stressful.
Thanks!
